About Me

Hi!

Piece of cream paper from spiral notebook

Welcome to MathMania! My name is Aglika Darakchieva and I am a mathematician based in Connecticut. I hold a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Connecticut and an MSc. in Mathematics from Fairfield University. My master’s thesis, Musical Set Theory and Graphs of Abstract Musical Transformations, explores the link between music theory and abstract algebra.

I have almost a decade of experience as private math tutor, teaching both the standard K-12 math curriculum and preparing students to take standardized tests SAT/ACT/SAT II (Math I and II) and AP Calculus (AB and BC). My goal is to help students become independent, confident, and resourceful problem solvers.

Most recently, I taught Statistics, Calculus, and Calculus III as a visiting assistant professor at Fairfield University. I have been active in mathematics research since 2013 and I published my first academic article (The vibration spectrum of two Euler-Bernoulli beams coupled via a dissipative joint) in 2016. I am currently working on research in the field of hyperbolic geometry and low-dimensional topology.
